Leather leggings are one of those pieces where you don’t realise how much you needed them until you have a pair in your wardrobe. They’re the perfect alternative to the basic black skinny jean, while bringing an unexpected texture to your outfit, which instantly appears as if more thought has gone into the look than actually has.
They’re not the easiest thing to shop for by any means, but I think I’ve found a winner in this Topshop pair. They’re faux leather but still a matte texture to effectively replicate the real deal. One of the best things about faux leather leggings rather than the real thing, is that they hold their shape much better. I’ve owned real leather pencil skirts and trousers in the past, and while they fit like a dream for the first few wears, after a while the material tends to soften and give. Once they reach this stage there’s really not a lot you can do to get them back to shape either.
The material of these Topshop leather leggings has a slight stretch to it, making them so comfortable to wear. And for even more comfort points, the inside is lined with brushed cotton, which means they’re so warm for the Winter too. I personally think even warmer than jeans! Since owning these, leather leggings have become an absolute staple in my wardrobe. I’ve found myself reaching for them far more than I ever thought I would! So if you’re thinking about making a purchase, or already own some, hopefully this will give you some ideas to take your leather leggings from day to night for any occasion.
I love a black trouser combined with other neutral pieces, it’s the colour combo you’ll find me in most days. Especially with leather, softer neutrals such as cream and grey on the top can help to break up the harshness of the look. There’s something about a varied neutral colour palette that always looks so chic and put together.
This look is perfect for days in the office, any meetings you may have or even a day of shopping. This Zara Faux Fur coat, combined with a cosy roll neck, is sure to keep you warm through the cooler months. A cream handbag is so chic, I absolutely adore this Mango embossed one with the gold hardware. Lighter toned accessories are so in right now! Add some neutral boots for a co-ordinated accessories feel and the look is effortlessly pulled together. The zip fastening on these boots may be silver, but who says you can’t mix your metals?!
Dress your leather leggings down for a casual look that still screams stylish. The perfect grey chunky knit will see you through the Winter season and it’s a piece you’ll find yourself reaching for time and time again. A grey knit is the perfect choice to break up a full black look, and for me, a must have in my Autumn/Winter wardrobe.
A pair of classic white trainers are an absolute style staple and a piece you will wear on repeat. I’ve already written about how much I love these and their amazing versatility, and I still feel the same way months later! The addition of a pink scarf creates a dreamy colour palette – pink and grey is one of my favourite combos – and it’s enough to add an element of interest to the look. This is the perfect outfit for more casual days, morning coffee runs or Sunday brunches with friends.
Just as easily as leather leggings can be dressed down with a pair of trainers and chunky knit for the daytime, they can be dressed up for the evening. This look is all about texture. There’s silky satin from the cami, a shaggy faux fur, a velvet bag and not to mention the leather! It’s perfect for cocktails with friends or even that party you’ve got coming up.
Blush pink and burgundy is one of my favourite colour combinations at the moment. It’s such a gorgeous contrast that works perfectly for introducing blush pink into your Winter wardrobe. The girly shade of the cami softens the toughness of the leather bottom, paired with the burgundy velvet bag it’s a winning combo!
If you’re going to be spending the night on your feet then finding shoes that are stylish that you can stand in for hours is a real blessing! These sock boots from Zara have that super sleek appearance you’d expect from a sock boot, but paired with a chunkier heel means that you’ll be comfortable all night long.
